What a thought-provoking and moving photo. Things like this really bring home the sheer scale of the loss during WW1 – the numbers are hard to imagine and then you see something like this and it makes you realise just how many men were killed.

Seeing that must’ve been so very emotional, a chilling sight but one which hopefully reminds us of the horrors of war and the need for peace

Oh wow, that is a very poignant and striking series of images. I was listening to a radio documentary yesterday. Apparently 14,000 lives were lost in just 10 minutes. #MySUndayPhoto

What an incredibly moving photo. It’s great how much work has gone into helping us remember the Somme. It doesn’t bear thinking about what those soldiers and families went through.

Gosh what an impact. I was reading about some of this and some of the soldiers were only 12 years old. How frightening that must have been for them. I hope something like that never happens again.
